If you’ve been told by your ObGyn Chico that you need a medical procedure for him to be able to further evaluate a gynecological problem you’re experiencing, you know the feeling of uncertainty that millions of other women in our country have to deal with each year.
When you visit your ObGyn Chico Dr. Raleigh Unterseher at Esplanade Woman’s Care he will explain the gynecological procedures available at his office and how each is performed. To provide an introduction, following is a brief overview of some of those procedures.
D & C (Dilatation and Curettage). During this procedure your cervix is dilated so that the tissue lining the interior walls of the uterus can be removed.
Diagnostic Laparoscopy. During this procedure, your ObGyn Chico will use a thin metal tube – or laparoscope – to inspect your reproductive organs for any sign of tissue growth.
Hysteroscopy. During this procedure, your ObGyn will insert a thin instrument resembling a telescope into your cervix and vagina to inspect the inside area of your uterus to isolate any uterine disorders.
TVT (Transvaginal Tape). This procedure is typically used to diagnose disorders associated with urinary stress incontinence. Under general or regional anesthesia, this permanent tape is positioned under the urethra through small incisions made in the vagina.
Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation. When permanent sterilization is desired, your ObGyn Chico will tie off your fallopian tubes – through small incisions – to prevent eggs from returning to the uterus.
Endometrial Ablation. This procedure is used to lighten – or stop – your menstrual flow by eliminating the lining of the uterus.
At Esplanade Woman’s Care, we also perform vaginal hysterectomies, abdominal hysterectomies, lap tubal ligations, and cystocele and rectocele repairs.
